Sterling Silver Horse Pendant Native American Handmade Sam Gray

Horse pendant is Native American handmade of sterling silver by Navajo silversmith Sam Gray.   Sam Gray uses heavy gauge sterling silver so the hand-carved Native American designs are prominent and the reliefs are deep.  The background silver is textured and the silver is oxidized to enhance the hand-carved horse, rider, mountains above and hand-stamped design and the pendant is then polished to a shine.

How was it made?  Silver horse pendant was made using the overlay technique.  The designs are hand-cut using a jeweler's saw.  The remaining sheet of silver or negative design is then soldered to the bottom sheet.  The silver pendant is then hand-stamped and slightly domed from the back, the background is textured and chemically oxidized and the silver is polished to a high shine.
