Our collection of Navajo earrings are made of sterling silver and genuine turquoise, coral, malachite, onyx, lab opal, spiney oyster shell, amber, lapis and other semi-precious stones. Navajo jewelry has been in existence for approximately 150 years. Atsidi Sani (means “old smith” in Navajo) is considered the grandfather of all Navajo smiths. Handmade silver beads were among the first Native American jewelry Navajo silversmiths made. Although it is not clear what type of metal early Navajo silversmiths were using, today Native American Indian silver jewelry is made using primarily sterling silver or 14kt gold. Turquoise was not used in American silver jewelry until the 1880’s after Navajo silversmiths started stamping and soldering silver. Some of the finest southwest jewelry is Navajo inlay earrings.
