STERLING SILVER OVERLAY TECHNIQUE: In short, the overlay technique is created by cutting a design out of a piece of silver, the result being a negative design. The silver that is left after the design has been cut out of it is then soldered onto a sheet of plain silver and the inside of the design is typically hand-stamped with fine lines and oxidized to show up black against the polished silver. The black background is burned into the silver using liver of sulfur acid and will not and will not flake or wash out. Much of Navajo silversmith Peter Nelson’s inspirations come from traditional rug patterns from weavings that his grandmother, mother and sisters have created. His meticulous attention detail, precision cuts and varied textures, makes each piece of Peter’s jewelry a one-of-a-kind collectible. Peter Nelson signs all of his work and a Certificate of Authenticity is included.

Much of Peter’s inspiration for his unique jewelry designs come from his mom and sisters who weave Two Grey Hills and Ganado Navajo rugs. He incorporates the traditional rug designs into his handmade silver bracelets, earrings, pendants, rings, buckles, bolos, money clips and key rings. Peter is married with 3 children and grandchildren. In addition to creating beautiful sterling silver overlay jewelry, Peter enjoys spending time with his family and riding his horses. A Certificate of Authenticity and picture of Peter Nelson is included with each purchase.
