Native American Earrings
TURQUOISE DANGLE EARRINGS
Turquoise dangle earrings are Zuni handmade of sterling silver. The interesting triangle shape of the stones are framed with a sterling silver twist wire and joined to each other with a small ring for optimum "swing." The post is near the top of the triangle of these light weight earrings. Handmade turquoise earrings measure approximately 1 3/4 inch long.

Most Zuni Indian jewelry made with turquoise is absent any matrix, the dark veins found in most turquoise as the artist meticulously cuts around the matrix found in genuine turquoise. Zuni silversmiths spend years developing their own distinctive design. The earliest recorded Zuni silversmith learned the art from a Navajo who came to the Zuni Pueblo in 1872. Some designs are passed down from generation to generation, but most Zuni silversmiths strive to originate their own design. Zuni jewelry is most noted for two different styles of jewelry. Zuni inlay jewelry is created by designing the silver piece, usually with sterling silver channels inside the outline of the design. Each stone is then cut and ground and set into the channels in the silver. Zuni needle point jewelry is created by designing the sterling silver piece, and then cutting the stones to slender, pointed ends. Silver bezels are then made for each stone and soldered to the design before each stone is set. Petit point is very similar to Needle Point Indian Jewelry, however the stones are only pointed on one end and rounded on the other. redrocktrading.com offers a wonderful selection of Zuni Indian Jewelry. Our collection of sterling silver Zuni earrings, Zuni bracelets, Zuni pendants and Zuni necklaces are set with genuine turquoise, coral, black jet, mother of pearl, and other semi-precious gemstones and shells. We feature renowned Zuni silversmiths such as Effie Calavaza (Effie C.), Don Dewa, Amy Quandelacy, Robert Leekya, Bobby and Corrine Shack, Dishta, Edaakie, Hustito, Leekity, Booqua, Wyaco, Etsate, Iule, Leekity, Gaurdian, Haloo and various other Zuni artists.

Our collection of Zuni earrings are made of sterling silver and genuine turquoise, coral, mother of pearl, jet, spiney oyster shell, lapis and other semi-precious gemstones. Zuni Indian jewelry is made on the Zuni Pueblo in northwestern New Mexico. Zuni jewelry is what artists of the Zuni Pueblo are most known for, however there are also extremely talented fetish carvers, kachina carvers, and potters. Most Zuni Indian jewelry is created by building the silver first and then cutting the stones and shells to fit versus the Navajo Indian jewelry which is typically built around the stone. Of course this is a rather vague generalization, but I think it is fair to say that when observing the differences between Navajo Indian Jewelry and Zuni Indian Jewelry, one could say that Zuni silversmiths are known more for their stone cutting than they are for their ornate silver work. Zuni earrings are some of the most beautiful, intricate and delicate earrings.
